Swipe Snippet #1 — The magic of “Free Gifts”

Here’s a little swipe snippet for ya.

Adam Gilad is a cool dude and he’s been in the game for a long time, so I’m guessing his stuff is working.

Today’s snippet is from an awesome fella named Adam Gilad.

Market/Niche: Dating

The thing I want to talk about is the art of giving away free stuff to drive action.

See how this email (it’s not the full email) mentions a $300 gift?

The subject line actually led with that.

“Join Me For Special Sunday Night Date UP(!) Event [$300 Gift Included!]”

And that can be a powerful tool for the uninitiated.

For marketers and copywriters like me, the first thing I think when I see: “$300 gift” is that I have to buy something to get it.

OR because he mentioned that the gift would be given at the END of the event…

I immediately think it’s a $300 credit towards a training program or something like that.

I could be wrong, but it’s just like when I see someone talking about a “10 second morning ritual” and I think: “It’s a supplement.”

You can get clever with how you hook people in when you change your thinking a bit. Tricks like these are how you can sweeten a deal and get attention without lying.

And just because I feel like it, here’s a promotion using this tactic that IS working.

I keep getting emails for this — and that means it’s almost certainly working.

Can you guess what the “catch” is?

I’ll give you a second to try and guess if you want.

Are you ready for the answer?

…just making sure.

The “catch” is that you get the “ballistic plate carrier” for free when you buy the bulletproof plates.

It’s like if I was giving away a free cooler, but only when you bought enough cases of beer.

Oh — and I’d be remiss if I didn’t tell you this next important tip…

Be careful trying this sort of thing if you’re newer.

These techniques generally tend to piss people off, sometimes set the wrong expectations and can also backfire.

But the benefit is that you get someone to at least give you a chance because of the carrot you’re dangling.

If I promised you a free course on how to become an A-List copywriter in just 30 days (which isn’t possible as far as I’m concerned)…

…and if you trust me enough to believe I can deliver (or that I have someone in my network that I partnered with who can deliver)…

I’m guessing you might at least read to find out how to get it if you aren’t too jaded.

Then if I future pace you and get you thinking about that sweet monthly paycheck or that huge $50k project…

By the time you realize the “Free premium” comes with something you have to buy…

There’s a chance you’ve already sold yourself on wanting the free bonus. And at that point, by saying no…

You’re LOSING something you’ve already become attached to.

You were already attached to an outcome and it’s just been ripped away from you like peeling off an old Band-Aid.

Not sure if I’ll keep doing these, but if it continues to be fun for me — then I’ll keep doing it.

As a disclaimer: These snippets aren’t proven — I don’t know if they’re pulling millions or nothing at all — and they’ll likely just be things that show up in my inbox.
